This cast iron and pressed steel bank is designed like an early 20th century gas stove. According to’The Penny Bank Book’ Bernstein Co. Of New York City made these in 1901. I have seen references to the bank being in production until 1920. The sides and back are made of one piece of pressed steel. This bank has some loss to the black paint on the steel. The top, front and bottom are cast iron. There are two burns and the coin slot which is in an oval for a stove pipe. The footed base says’gas stove bank’. The bank is held together by a nut and bolt closure. The bottom has a little rust and is marked’pat apld for’. There is missing metal between the holes next to the nut, this appears to be in the making and not a break. The front has two doors molded into it as well as scroll work. The measurements on this are 5 1/4 inches tall and 4 inches square at the base. The top is 3 by 3 3/4. This is very nice piece. A great gift for a bank or stove collector.
